As of ABAP 1809, you can use IS INITIAL or IS NOT INITIAL in WHERE clauses.
"Select movies where gross collection data is available
SELECT movie FROM zmmovie
WHERE grosscol IS NOT INITIAL
INTO TABLE @DATA(lt_movie).
